NUTRITION is key to our energy

It is common sense that what we eat affects our health.  The media is constantly telling us to eat less sugar, more vegetables, less fat, more fat... hey hang on that's contradictory!

Yes there's a lot we are told about the food we eat that can by misleading, contradictory and sometimes even wrong!  Sometimes we can make food choices according to what we think is healthy advice, but this advice is sometimes based more on heresay or profit agendas than on scientific evidence (and the amount of research for women of menopausal age is limited!).

Our bodies are looking for certain nutrients to stay healthy and the modern diet is often lacking in these essentials as well as including food that is actually making us unwell.

The solution can be simple:

  • Eat a variety of real foods  - less manufactured foods with long lists of ingredients, more plants and good quality proteins.
  • Eat regularly - our bodies need regular fuel intake, a bit like electric cars!  Timing of when you eat can also make a difference to stress and sleep.
  • Give your gut time to rest - eating constantly can overload our digestive system, so our gut needs time to rest and digest.
  • Eat carbohydrates that release their sugars slowly - so that your body has time to respond.  These generally come from whole grains and other whole foods that contain plenty of fibre.
  • Have appropriate portions sizes - with a balance of protein, vegetables and carbohydrates.

Understanding what your current diet may be missing or fine tuning your choices according to how your body is functioning, your food preferences and intolerances can be challenging.   Which is where a Nutrition Coach can help, supporting you in understanding the implications of your choices and making suggestions to improve the vitality of your diet.
